The Ethics and Side Effects of Remote Monitoring
Remote work situations have to lead to questions about how to make sure that employees are productive and using company time well. It also helps monitor the security of company equipment, software, and networks.
Some companies opt for monitoring software to make sure that employees are spending paid time working on the platforms and assignments that benefit the company.
While this is a management option, I’m not sure that it’s a good one. Micromanagement has a habit of making employees feel that they are not trusted or valued. That can lead to people to find ways to trick monitoring software. Check out the article in the link below to learn more.
In my opinion, management is better off judging employees based on their productivity and other measurables. Tracking the fact that they’re logged in all day won’t tell you much about their customer service or value to your company.
